Prior to the day of departure (4th October2011 ) a message was left in our hotel room (Atlantis City Hotel) from this travel agency reporting that the airline was going on strike on the 5th of October and that we could depart Rhodes on the 4th of October as there was an available flight. The message indicated that we needed to be at the airport by 7pm that night with the flight departing at 8.30pm. We tried to phone the travel agency once we received this message however were advised that the travel agent was unavailable until 4pm. After 4pm the hotel receptionist phoned the travel agency and she was advised of the above plan ie: be at the airport by 7pm as there were planned strikes for the 5th of October. At this suggestion we checked out of our hotel and booked extra accommodation in Santorini to ensure that we had somewhere to stay for the night of the 4th of October. Upon arriving at the airport we were advised by airport staff that firstly there were in fact no flights to Santorini and secondly you as the travel agent should have changed the booking rather than sending us to the airport. The options were to remain in Rhodes or fly to Athens with the hope of catching a ferry to Santorini. As we had checked out of our accommodation and booked extra accommodation in Santorini (170 Euros) we decided to go to Athens as we had assumed since you as a travel agent advising us to go at that time we would be able to get to Santorini. However upon arrival in Athens it was apparent that we were unable to get to Santorini, thus we needed to spend the night in Athens and then travel by ferry the next day. This misinformation supplied by your travel agency has caused us several hundred Euros for accommodation booked in both Santorini (170 Euros) and Athens (100 Euros) and paying for flights to Santorini from Athens which we could not use. Once in Santorini we were then advised by the receptionist at the hotel after talking with your service that we would be reimbursed for the flights that we did not use from Athens to Santorini. We are still waiting for our refund. This is unprofessional and unacceptable. I would suggest to stay away from this unprofessional rip off agent.
